One of the first questions almost every family asks us is simple: how much does it cost to build and finish a grave in Kampala? The honest answer is "it depends" — but not in a way that's meant to dodge the question. Grave construction pricing genuinely varies based on a handful of clear factors, and once you understand them, it's easy to estimate roughly where your project will fall.
Grave Size: Single, Double or Family Tomb
The starting point is size. A single grave costs less than a double grave built for a couple, which in turn costs less than a larger family tomb designed to hold several members over time. Family tomb construction requires more structural planning — deeper foundations, reinforced walls, and often a larger finished surface — which adds to both material and labour costs.
Material Choice: Terrazzo, Granite or Marble
Material is usually the biggest single factor in the final price. Terrazzo is our most affordable full-grave finish and holds up well outdoors in Uganda's climate, making it a popular choice for families working with a tighter budget. Granite costs more but is significantly more durable and takes a high polish that looks striking for decades — it's our most requested material for both headstones and full grave surfaces. Marble sits in a similar price range to granite but is generally reserved for headstones and detailed carving rather than full grave surfaces, since it weathers faster when constantly exposed to sun and rain.

Finishing and Engraving Detail
A plain polished surface costs less than a grave with detailed engraving, a portrait plaque, scripture, or decorative borders. Headstone engraving is usually priced separately from the grave construction itself, and the amount of text, imagery and material used all affect the final cost.
Cemetery Access and Ground Conditions
Some cemeteries and plots are easier to access and work on than others. Difficult ground conditions, limited vehicle access, or work required outside Kampala in districts like Wakiso, Mukono, Entebbe or Jinja can add to logistics costs, though we plan this in advance so there are no surprises.
